Why I Mentor

I have learned a lot throughout my basketball journey, and I want younger athletes to benefit from those experiences. My older brother was my first mentor. He helped me love the game while also teaching me how to work at it and get better. I want to provide that same kind of guidance for athletes as they chase their own goals.

What I Wish I Understood Earlier

I wish I understood how much it truly takes to be successful in basketball and how much everything matters. It is not only about what happens in workouts or games. Your habits, preparation, attitude, recovery, relationships, and the way you carry yourself away from the court all play a role.

What Shaped How I Mentor

Injuries have given me a different perspective on basketball. Going through a significant foot injury and being unable to play showed me how much I genuinely loved the game. It gave me a greater appreciation for every opportunity to practice, compete, and keep pursuing basketball, and it taught me to enjoy the process instead of taking those opportunities for granted.

What Good Mentorship Looks Like

Good mentorship should be personal to the athlete. Every athlete has different goals, challenges, and personalities, so they should not all be mentored the same way. I want to build trust, support athletes in whatever they are going through, and become someone they know they can count on now and years down the road. Ultimately, I want the athletes I mentor to become better basketball players, but also better people who treat others well, avoid shortcuts, and learn how to pursue difficult goals the right way.
